Immanuel is come

Isaiah 7:14

God is Faithful and he can be trusted to do exactly what he says he will do.  In the past, God promised to send a Savior to deliver his people from the penalty of sin and repair the broken relationship between God and man that sin had caused.

To help fulfill this promise, God called Abram to leave his home land and go to a new land that he would show him.  Abram was obedient and faithful to the call of God and began his journey from the land of his father to the new land that God promised.

GOD’S PROMISES TO ABRAHAM – GENESIS 12:1 - 22:18

Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:  And I will…

  1. Make of you a great nation.
  2. Bless You.
  3. Make Your Name Great.
  4. Bless them that bless you.
  5. Curse them that curse you.
  6. Bless all families of the earth through your seed.
  7. Give your descendants (seed) the land of Canaan.
  8. Your offspring will reign on the throne forever.

GOD PROMISE TO DAVID, – 2 SAMMUEL 7

…Thus said the Lord of hosts through the prophet Nathan to David, King of Israel…

  1. I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels,
  2. And, I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom forever.
  3. And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established forever.    (KJV)

GOD’S PROMISES TO SOLOMON, SON OF DAVID AND BATHSHEBA – I KINGSS 9:3-5

The Lord said to him, “I have heard your prayer and your supplication, which you have made before Me; I have consecrated this house which you have built by putting My name there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually. As for you, if you will walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that I have commanded you and will keep My statutes and My ordinances, then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, just as I promised to your father David, saying, ‘You shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’ (KJV)

POINTS OF EMPHASES:

In the fullness of time, God sent forth his son in the form of a man. (Galatians 4:4, 5)  His name is Jesus. His earthly parents are Mary and Joseph both of the house of David.

THE ANGEL GABRIEL VISITS MARY – The angel Gabriel, who stands in the very presence of God, visited Mary to announce that she was highly favored by God and had been chosen to be the earthly mother of God’s only begotten son, Jesus Christ.

At that time of Gabriel's visit, Mary was betrothed (engaged) to a carpenter named Joseph.  Being with child prior to marriage, in those days and in that society, was considered completely undesirable.  A woman, who was un-wed and with and with child, could be persecuted and even stoned to death.  An unwed mother might have been ostracized, criticized, stigmatized and completely rejected by the other members of the society in which Mary lived.

The angel Gabriel observed Mary’s concern at his saying and told her to fear not.  When the angel appeared to Mary he greeted her and revealed that she was blessed, highly favored by God and blessed among women.  At the time the angel’s appearance, Mary was set to marry Joseph of Nazareth.  Mary was a young virgin, who had never been with a man in an intimate way as was the strict custom of her day.

After the announcement by Gabriel, Mary was concerned and asked Gabriel, “How can I be with child when I have never been with a man?”  Gabriel explained to Mary that the Holy Spirit would overshadow her and her child would be conceived through the power of the Most High.  Gabriel informed Mary, "with God, nothing shall be impossible".

To further confirm the message, Gabriel advised Mary that her cousin Elizabeth who had been barren her entire life and married to the elderly priest, Zacharias and both beyond the normal child bearing age, would also have a miraculous birth of a child through the power of the Spirit of God.  In other words, Gabriel was informing Mary that when things seem beyond the realm of possibility with man, they are very possible with God who is archetec of the universe and maker of all that is therein.

Mary’s responded to Gabriel's message from God in faith, joy and praise.  After a spirit filled time of praise that is detailed in Mary’s Song, “The Magnificent”, Mary concluded this episode in her life with Gabriel by simply saying; “let it be unto me just as you said”.

CONCLUDING POINTS TO REMEMBER

  1. GOD IS FAITHFUL; HE WILL KEEP HIS WORD.
  2. GOD WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN.
  3. GOD CAN MAKE A WAY WHEN THERE SEEMS TO BE NO WAY.
  4. GOD IS ABLE TO DO IT.
  5. GOD WILL DO WHAT HE SAID HE WILL DO.
  6. GOD IS ABLE. HE CREATED THE UNIVERSE FROM NOTHING AND MADE SOMETHING.
  7. WITH GOD NOTHING SHALL BE IMPOSSIBLE.
